1N 13-15 HCP, balanced
This bid is natural! Its only promises 13-15 HCP and a balanced hand with 44, 54, 45, or 55 shape in the majors.
This bid is GaLwood's other lynchpin. It is from this bid that all others follow.
1N practically requires 5 card major Stayman. Responder can be sure that opener is 44, 45, 54 or 55 in the majors, therefore responder will immediately know, based on opener response to Stayman, whether or not there is a fit and what the fit is.
Of course, opener can also show different point counts, like:
17-20 1C then 1N
21-23 2N
24+ 1C then 2N
all with 44, 45, 54 or 55 shapes.
It might be noticed that a 16 HCP count is not listed. That is because it is viewed as a judgement call. A bad 16 can be included in 1N, while a good 16 could be included in the 1C-1N sequence.
2D = 8+ HCP, artificial, transfer to hearts
3D = 12+ HCP, 6+ suit
4D = Texas transfer to hearts
5D = ?
2C = 11+ HCP, 5 card major Stayman
2H = 8+ HCP, artificial, transfer to spades
3H = 12+ HCP, 6+ hearts
4H = Texas transfer to spades
2S = 12+ HCP; 5+ spades
3S = 21+ HCP; 6+ spades
4S = ??
3C = 12+ HCP; 6+ suit
4C = ??
5C = ??
A couple of comments about these responder bids:
These bids are NOT mandatory. Each partnership may use its own continuations, conventions and gadgets after the 1N opening bid.
On the other hand, for GaLwood players, these are the recommended continuations.
Responder bids are not yet linked to other pages.
